About This Book
A mistreated young woman endures servitude under a harsh stepmother and vain stepsisters, showing kindness to animals and neighbors. When the royal household announces a ball for the prince's marriage choice, she is forbidden to attend but aided by a magical benefactor who transforms her appearance and provides a splendid coach, warning that the enchantment will end at midnight. At the ball the prince becomes enamored, but the heroine flees as the hour strikes, leaving behind a slipper. The courtly search for the slipper leads to recognition, the shoe fits, and the tale concludes with her elevation and a reversal of fortunes.
