About This Book

After humanity completes faster-than-light travel, two explorers land on an inhabited world expecting interaction but find radios silent and locals apparently unable to perceive sound or signals. Observing active cities and atmosphere traffic that emit no detectable broadcasts, they deduce that exceeding light speed in normal space-time has put them slightly ahead of the planet's timeline, so communications from the inhabitants' past cannot reach them. Faced with the prospect of permanent temporal separation, they choose to return to space and attempt near-light-speed maneuvers and computer calculations to cancel or compensate the time offset.
