Acid Bath

The story follows a solitary watcher stationed on an asteroid who confronts an incursion of strange steel-blue robotic beings. After a brief chase and a failed attempt to blast their vessel, the watcher's weapons prove ineffective and a corrosive material alters the ship and disables defenses. Captured and temporarily paralyzed, the watcher discovers the robots communicate mentally and begin to exert control; their arrival initiates an extended experimental program that threatens the outpost and forces the protagonist to confront unfamiliar technologies and survival choices.
