Bert Wilson, Wireless Operator

A young wireless operator aboard a passenger steamer becomes central to a sequence of perilous adventures at sea and on remote islands. Using skill at the radio and signalling rockets he helps avert disaster during a blazing shipboard fire, summons or coordinates rescues, and maintains communications through storms and derelicts. The story follows multiple episodes—typhoons, shipwrecks, shark encounters, hostile islanders, pirates and survival on tropical shores—where the protagonist and his companions rely on courage, seamanship and quick thinking. Action-driven vignettes alternate with episodes of exploration and resourceful problem-solving as the small party fights to preserve life and property across changing maritime hazards.
