About This Book
The one-act drama takes place on the shaded veranda of an urban tavern and follows a young nobleman who daily seats himself to watch the street and articulate his rapturous, reciprocal love for a nearby young woman. His prolonged reveries and the reactions of patrons, friends and the tavern family produce a mix of lyrical monologue, music and stage action that alternates exaltation with comic or skeptical observation. Through concentrated staging and dialogue it probes the intensity of longing, the theatricality of passion, and how private feeling reshapes perception amid ordinary social bustle.
