About This Book
A mother duck, having left an unhappy farm life, raises six ducklings in a hollow tree beside a river. The brood—named Squdge, Queek, Buff, Pin-Toes, Fluffy, and Curly-Tail—enjoys swimming, woodland picnics, and learning about their mother's past. On one outing they climb rocks, glimpse the distant farm, and hurry home ahead of a storm. Safe in the hollow tree, the ducklings listen to their mother's tales, including a sad story about Wiggle-Waggle-Wisk-Tail. Later episodes follow their gentle encounters with other birds, including frightened chickens and a distraught hen at the water's edge.
