He faces relentless advertising, cross-planet tabus enforced as universal law, and bewildering etiquette traps that risk legal censure. A gregarious salesman offers worldly tips and reveals how enforced universal kinship and peace have produced petty bureaucratic policing of difference. The narrative satirizes how cultural harmonization, omnipresent marketing, and ritualized conformity create absurd misunderstandings and social discomfort when someone trained in ascetic communal rules reenters the outer world.
