Ambition

A scientist awakens to find himself transported from a secured research Reservation to a remote, pastoral facility and struggles to understand how and why he was abducted. After discovering transparent barriers and unfamiliar architecture, he observes arrivals and is confronted by Swarts, who refuses to disclose the location but explains that the captive will be kept for about a week under strict rules and subjected to psychological tests. Swarts presents a laboratory with monitoring equipment and warns that cooperation will ease the process while coercion remains an option. The story examines secrecy, the ethics of scientific interrogation, and the vulnerability of specialized knowledge under pressure.
