The envoy outlines practical and ethical consequences: manufacturing, retail, and services vanish as people can synthesize goods or directly reposit nutrients, prompting economic collapse and obviating advertising. The executive presses for franchise rights, but the envoy refuses, citing a moral duty to avoid imposing disruptive technology on a less developed society.
