The Imitation of Earth

A survivor awakens after a space accident to discover his consciousness reborn in the form of a sprawling, photosensitive plant on a hostile, rapidly changing planet. He recalls fragments of human life while adapting to new perception and growth, encountering another transformed human who asserts territorial claims. As they compete and cooperate, they explore volatile landscapes, marshal vegetative defenses against fast-evolving aquatic and crablike fauna, and experiment with mobility and reproduction. The narrative follows their shifting identities and survival strategies, examining adaptation, the persistence of memory, and the alien logic of a nonhuman physiology.
