The Hermit of Mars

An elderly archaeologist has lived alone on Mars for decades after choosing exile following personal loss, maintaining a pressurized igloo and sending reports and artifacts back to Earth. He uncovers fossilized Martian machinery and struggles with conflicting loyalties between preserving fragile cultural remains and the Institute's scientific appetite. His routine isolation is interrupted when an unannounced rocket delivers two suit-clad visitors, forcing him to confront the risks of outside interference and his own attachment to the past. The narrative explores solitude, the tension between art and science, and the burdens of custodianship in a remote outpost.
