The Martian Circe

An SBI captain investigates a mysterious tavern singer whose husky songs and a drug called harmeena ensnare spacemen in nostalgic, dreamlike raptures that end in madness and death. Moving through smoky Martian starhouses disguised as a prospector, he observes the singer's uncanny hold over miners and gamblers and traces scattered reports of a phantom tavern. The narrative follows his methodical pursuit of the singer, the eerie atmosphere of frontier settlements, and the interplay of longing, addiction, and manipulation as he attempts to uncover the source of the narcotic influence that threatens individuals and the wider interplanetary community.
