Cargo to Callisto

The narrative follows Joe Caradac, a Mars resident whose comfortable domestic life is upended when authorities warn that four Aarnian escapees—entities able to leave their bodies and possess others—may be at large. Mandatory psycho-screening and public alerts create suspicion and guarded behavior among neighbors as ordinary routines become fraught with the possibility of hidden intruders. Interspersed memories and dreams recall Joe's earlier struggles and steady career rise, contrasting private stability with collective anxiety. The story examines trust, bodily autonomy, and the social effects of fear as a community confronts an invisible, identity-eroding threat.
