Whilst father was fighting

Episodes center on the dog's dramatic rescue of a child, a dispute involving Tom Smith, the discovery of a ruby brooch, and an encounter with a compassionate young noblewoman connected to the household. The short chapters combine domestic detail, adventure, and moral instruction about courage, loyalty and neighbourly kindness.
