About This Book
The narrative follows a young man, Robert Nordement, who commutes with a fixed circle of small businessmen to a suburban resort and feels increasingly alienated within his family and social milieu. He is taciturn, haunted by the death of his close friend, preparing for a history degree while drifting between his father's shop and academic study. Through lively portraits of fellow commuters, neighbours, and relatives, the work sketches daily routines, petty vanities, and the tensions between generational expectations and personal detachment.
