Darkness and Dawn

Survivors awaken into a depopulated, ruined world and must learn its hazards, scavenge supplies, and reestablish life from the remnants of a lost civilization. An engineer assumes practical leadership while expeditions explore buried workshops and recover machinery, seeking fresh water, food, and tools. Encounters with strange peoples and technologies prompt migrations, experiments in social organization and industry, and escalating clashes as new societies emerge. The middle portion follows journeys across perilous landscapes and efforts to adapt invention for survival; the concluding section records personal losses, betrayals, pitched battles, and a tentative renewal of community and hope.
