About This Book
A solitary poet, long confined by storms on the Sorrento coast, walks into a sudden spring day and is overwhelmed by sun, sea, blossoms and village life. The abundance of sensory detail and festive sounds intensifies his longing to render the scene artistically, yet it only deepens his sense of inadequacy and envy of singers, dancers and painters who seem better suited to express nature’s splendour. Hoping to translate the feeling into verse, he finds his muse silent and reflects on the gap between intense perception and the often disappointing results of creative striving.
