There are several references in the index to ‘Jumah’, but only a entry for ‘Juma Merikani’, an Arab trader, who in Volume 1 is called ‘Jumah Merikani’, but in Volume 2, ‘Juma’. The ferences for ‘Juma’ in Volume 2 seems to confuse the two. The reference to p. 75 refers to Juma(h) Merikano, but the reference to p. 327 refers to Abed bin Jumah (perhaps Jumah’s son), a guide who died with Frank Pocock at Livingtone Falls.

At 219.2, a tropical fruit called ‘anoma’ is described. This may be ‘annona’ (or ‘anona’), though the fruit is described as ‘clusters of crimson’, which does not seem to jibe with current images of the species.

The index entry for ‘Mtongoleh’ refers the reader to the topic ‘Titles’, which does not exist. There is no index topic (per se) for ‘Palm-wine’; however, there is a reference to ‘Zogga’ (palm-wine).

The Index entry ‘Camps’ refers to ‘Itinerary’ in the Appendix preceding the Index itself, presumably the dated table entitled ‘Positions of the following Places’.

The page reference (ii., pp. 693-6) regarding the trade prospects in Nyangwé is incorrect. It was most likely intended to be pp. 93-6, and has been corrected.

Tnere are a number of discrepancies in the Index references, where the index topics are spelled differently than in the text itself: Igenku/Igenko, Isangalla/Isangila, Kpumpi/Kipimpi, Lukugu/Lukuga, Lumani/Lumami, Alambola/Ulambola, Usongoro/Usongora, Uhamba/Uhumba, Rumami/Rumani, Ruweru/Rweru, Shiza/Shizu, Monangeh/Monangah. To avoid confusion, these have been corrected.

Other errors deemed most likely to be the printer’s have been corrected, and are noted here. The references are to the page and line in the original.
