The Big Time

The narrator is an Entertainer who runs a Recuperation Station called the Place, nursing Soldiers back from the Change War, a conflict waged by time travelers and fought across eras between rival factions. Daily life in the Place blends camaraderie, quarrels, and brief romances among a small troupe of caregivers while military arrivals and reports keep intruding. The arrival of three hussars, including a familiar officer, brings news of a pivotal operation that may determine the war's outcome. The narrative interleaves battlefield raids, personal memories, and tactical maneuvering to explore the human cost of temporal warfare, shifting identities, and loyalties that extend beyond individual lifetimes.
