The Thing of Venus

A disgraced, drug-addled former Space Patrolman is dragged into a high-stakes rescue when a colonel urges him to locate a woman who stowed away to Venus with companions. Bitter over betrayal and stripped of rank, he bargains for reinstatement and revenge while struggling with past addiction and resentments. The mission becomes urgent after the party is stranded on hostile islands beneath Venus's shrouded clouds, where an enormous formless sea entity advances with slow, phosphorescent menace. The narrative follows the tense attempt to reach and save the marooned group amid interpersonal conflict and alien danger.
